In celebration of the International Day of Peace, Oakland University will present its annual Peace Day Concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 in Varner Recital Hall on the OU campus in Rochester Hills, Mich.
The program will feature Joe Reilly, a singer, songwriter, social worker, Dharma teacher, and educator who writes songs from his heart to bring people together and build community across lines of race, class, gender, ethnicity, religion, age, and nationality. Reilly will be joined by Lesley-Anne Stone and Mark Stone for this year’s Peace Day celebration.
“When we make music together from the heart, we remember who we really are as relatives in one big extended Earth family,” Reilly said. “We are able to experience our deep, indestructible nature of interbeing and embody the peace that we want to see in the world”
Established by a United Nations resolution in 1981, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world each year on Sept. 21 as a “globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture for peace.” The theme for this year’s International Day of Peace is “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”
Admission to the Peace Day concert is free.
